and well-being of children and youth
The Residents Section, founded in 1990, provides a network for those in paediatric training. The section makes up nearly a quarter of CPS membership and represents 94% of all paediatric residents in Canada. It provides a forum for residents to develop ideas and discuss issues related to the training and education of Canadian paediatric residents. The section is active in areas such as advocacy and professional development, particularly during the CPS Annual Conference.
Residents are the future of paediatrics and are integral members of the CPS. The section has representation on the CPS Board of Directors and a representative from each paediatric program in Canada is appointed to the section executive committee to act as a liaison between residents and the CPS.
All first year residents receive complimentary CPS membership from July, when they begin their residency, until December 31 of the following year.
Dear paediatric residents and medical students,
Welcome to the official Residents' Section webpage! My name is Ravneet Sekhon and it is my pleasure to be the Residents' Section President for 2016-2017. As a Section, our main goal is to promote the health of children and youth through education and advocacy. Along with this, my role includes advocating for all Canadian paediatric residents at the CPS and promoting initiatives which serve the needs of residents. Through a national paediatric resident survey done this year, we heard from many of you regarding what you would like the CPS Residents' Section to do to improve your resident experience and better support you during this time. Our goals over the next few years will be to focus on:
In addition to serving residents, our section also works to mentor medical students as they transition to future residents (hopefully pediatric residents!). We encourage all interested medical students to become a CPS member and attend our annual conference, happening in Vancouver in June 2017! The annual conference is a great way to meet colleagues and make connections with experts in the field; students will also have the opportunity to have a resident mentor during the conference. Stay tuned for more information regarding our Section activities!
I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can this year and at the Annual Conference in 2017! Please feel free to get in touch with either Nikki or myself with any questions or concerns via email.
Regards,
Ravneet Sekhon
