Search tips
These tips will help you get more
specific results with your search.
- Search for a specific phrase.
Example - Type infectious diseases
to find all documents with the phrase
infectious diseases.
- Use AND
to look for two or more words.
Example - Type fever AND
immunization to find all documents
containing both words.
- Use NEAR
to search for words that appear close
to each other.
Example - Type nutrition NEAR
babies to find all documents where
nutrition appears within 50 words of
babies. Search results will rank the
documents according to how closely
together the words appear.
- Use OR
to search for similar words or
synonyms.
Example - Type children OR youth
to find all documents with children,
youth, but not necessarily both of
them.
- Use AND NOT
to exclude words from your search.
Example - Type allergies AND NOT
food to find documents with
allergies but not food.
- Use double quotes to use AND,
OR, NEAR, or NOT literally.
Example - Type "vitamins or
minerals" to find the exact
phrase. Without the double quotes,
your search would turn up documents
with either word in them.
- Use a single asterisk (*)
to look for words that begin with the
same letters.
Example - Type child* to find
child, childhood, children, and so on.
- Use a double asterisk (**)
to look for all forms of a word.
Example - Type feed** to match
feed, fed, feeding.
