Recognizing Excellence in Paediatrics
The CPS recognizes excellence in paediatric research, advocacy, health promotion and education. Nominations reflect the efforts of colleagues to make life better for children and youth.
Criteria and documentation vary for each award, so please review each carefully before submitting your nomination. The annual nomination deadline is January 17, unless otherwise indicated.
Annual
- Alan Ross Award: For lifelong excellence in paediatric research, education, health care and advocacy.
- Michel Weber Education Award: Recognizing an individual whose career in medical and/or inter-professional education has had a significant and positive impact on learners in child and youth health.
- Noni MacDonald Award: For an article published in Paediatrics & Child Health that has positively affected paediatrics.
- Young Investigator Award: Recognizes basic or clinical research accomplishments of a young investigator in fields that benefit child and youth health. Sponsored by Department of Pediatrics, McGill University.
Biennial
- Victor Marchessault Advocacy Award: Honours an individual or organization who has made an outstanding contribution to Canada’s children and youth at the local, provincial, or national level. The next award will be given in 2012.
- Geoffrey C. Robinson Award: For outstanding contributions to child and youth health through population health or health services research. The next award will be given in 2013.
- Career Research Award: Recognizes the career of an outstanding and accomplished researcher working on an aspect of paediatric research in Canada. The next award will be given in 2012.
Collaborative Awards
- P.H. Bryce Award: For excellence in public health advocacy for First Nations, Métis and Inuit children and youth. Deadline: January 15, 2012. Submit nominations to the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society.
Section Awards
Section Grants (Submission deadlines vary)
- Hospital Paediatrics Resident Bursary: Provides $500 to a resident to offset the cost of presenting academic research in the field of Hospital Paediatrics at a national or international conference.
- International Child Health Grants: Allow paediatric residents and fellows the opportunity to complete a paediatric elective in developing countries.
- Resident Advocacy Grant: Supports paediatric residents in developing’ planning and implementing a community-based research or advocacy project in child and youth health.
- Paediatric Sports Medicine Grant: Promotes opportunities for residents and fellows to pursue electives in the area of paediatric sport medicine.
