Sharing your international experience The Don
& Elizabeth
Hillman International Child
Health Grant was created by the Global Child & Youth Health Section with the underlying philosophy of promoting
international health opportunities for residents and fellows.
The
section has established four $750 grants to be awarded annually, which
are to be used towards completing a paediatric elective in developing
countries.
Requirements Candidates will be assessed based on
their responses to a series of questions related to interest and
thoughtfulness about the impact of the elective on personal and
professional futures. Candidate
must:
- Be registered as a resident or fellow in a Canadian
paediatric postgraduate training program.
- Be
a member of the CPS Global Child & Youth Health Section.
- Have support from a preceptor in the host country
and from their residency program director.
- Have
a preceptor in the host country willing to formally evaluate the
candidate while they are abroad.
- Demonstrate
appropriate preparation in advance of the elective as evidenced by a
completed checklist of pre-travel arrangements.
The international elective
must: - Relate to child
health,
- Be at least four
weeks in length,
- Be in a
low or middle income country, unless travel is intended for disaster
relief or other work/research related to health in developing
countries, and,
- Be a
clinical or research elective. Applications for courses or conferences
will not be accepted.
Priority
will be given to applicants who are
not receiving funding or payment for their overseas rotation in
addition to their regular resident salary. A candidate may apply up to
two times for the grant; however, past recipients are not eligible to
re-apply. Submissions Submissions
must be received prior to travel. Apply on-line
or complete and return the application form. Applications
must be received before the
appropriate deadline for consideration. Incomplete or late applications
will not be considered. Applications
must be submitted to:
