Translation and Language

In general, the Canadian Paediatric Society will apply the following principles with regard to translation and language:

  • Material of a clinical nature (eg., position statements and practice points) intended for child and youth health professionals will be available in English and French.
  • Material intended for the public (eg., information for parents, news releases) will be available in English and French.
  • Educational sessions will be delivered in either English or French.
  • The working language of the CPS (Board of Directors, committees, sections, editorial board) is English.

In practice, this means that:

  • CPS websites, including www.cps.ca and www.caringforkids.cps.ca, will be bilingual. Items specifically intended for the website will be available in English and French. There may be documents posted to our websites as pdfs that are available in either English or French.
  • Position statements, practice points, and handouts for parents/caregivers will be published in English and French.
  • Documents such as annual reports will be published in English and French.
  • The CPS will send out press releases in English and French. To the extent possible, CPS spokespeople will be available for interviews in both English and French.
  • The CPS will make every effort to release documents in English and French at the same time.
  • All submissions to the CPS must be in either English or French.
  • Most working group meetings (eg., Board of Directors, committees, sections, editorial boards) will be conducted in English.
  • Educational sessions (eg., annual conferences, CMEs) will be conducted in either English or French.
  • Promotional/descriptive material for educational sessions will be produced in the language in which the session is being presented.
  • From time to time, materials may need to be translated into languages other than English or French, to meet the needs of the target audience(s).
  • The Board of Directors will review this policy annually or as needed.
