Residents Section
Ereny Bassilious, MD,
Section President
The Residents Section has had another exciting and productive year. We continue to work on many innovative and resident centered initiatives.
Our Newsletter: Residents' Corner
This year we have redesigned the format and content of our newsletter. In the next few weeks we will be publishing the first issue of our revamped and totally resident driven newsletter! We are exciting to show off our new web-based interactive format and our residents' publications which vary from case reports to inspiring prose.
2009 Annual Conference, Ottawa , June 23-27
Our section is hosting a concurrent seminar featuring Dr. Kellie Leitch and Dr. David Butler-Jones. They will be presenting on “ Our role in ensuring health for all Canadian children and youth: Exploring the causes of poor health”
As well, Dr. Charlotte Moore, the Provincial Lead for Maternal, Child and Youth Health Strategy at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care will be speaking to the residents during the Resident Advocacy dinner about Professional Policy, Politics and Paediatric Practice.
The resident advocacy dinner is an opportunity to showcase the amazing impact residents can have on their community. We will hear from Dr. Kevin Harris and Dr. Jane Ng, the recipients of the 2008 Resident Advocacy Grant about their inspiring project: "Improving Nutrition in Children of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside " project.
Subspecialty Fellowship Synchronization:
- Much progress has been made in this initiative. A draft of the proposed application process that was felt to meet the needs of residents and subspecialty programs has been completed and approved. The projected year for piloting the synchronized application process would be for the cohort starting subspecialty training in July 2011. The match will a web-based application process administered by the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS) with a proposed application deadlines ~ 14 months prior to initiation of fellowship training. It will be a non-algorithmic, rolling acceptance process. Residents are encouraged to contact any programs they may be applying to in order to clarify dates and deadlines for applications.
Residents Section Vice President Election
This year we will pilot a new process of nominating and electing the Vice President of the Residents Section. We have called for an electronic nation wide nomination until March 15. After this time, residents from across the country will have the opportunity to vote on line for the VP of their section. This process will provide a more objective and national process that will encourage broader resident participation.
Medical Elective database: If you have completed an elective or know of an available elective opportunity please submit the information. The database is available on the CPS website in the resident section
