Healthy Active Living: Where Do Our Children Stand?

A Presentation for Paediatricians
About this presentation
“Healthy Active Living: Where Do Our Children Stand?” has been developed for paediatricians to use with community leaders, parents and other health professionals to promote healthy active living for children and youth.
It is adapted from a presentation developed by Dr. Claire LeBlanc, Chair of the Canadian Paediatric Society’s Advisory Committee on Healthy Active Living for Children and Youth.
The presentation:
- describes the problems of inactivity and poor diet among children and youth, and the health implications of such a lifestyle, including weight problems, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis and mental health problems
- provides solutions – physical activity and healthy eating – as described in Canada’s Physical Activity Guide for Children and Youth and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating
- stresses that we all have a role to play in finding solutions, and ends by providing practical recommendations for home, school and community settings.
The presentation is:
- designed to be used either as Microsoft PowerPoint or as printed overheads. A full set of speaking notes is also provided.
- designed to be flexible – you choose the slides that suit your audience and the length of time you have. You also have the option of adding slides that are specifically relevant to your audience, and of modifying the speaking notes that are provided.
This tool can help you make a real difference with school and community groups, municipal leaders, other paediatricians and health professionals in all disciplines.
Presented in conjunction with recreation or public health professionals, it can be the start of effective partnerships for change in your community.
We’d appreciate any feedback you have on how you used the presentation, how it was received, and how it could be improved. Please contact us at info@cps.ca.
