International Meeting on Indigenous Child Health

Join with the Canadian Paediatric Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics, collaborating with the Indian Health Service, US Department of Health and Human Services, and the First Nations, Inuit and Aboriginal Health Branch, Health Canada, for the 4th International Meeting on Indigenous Child Health. We invite all health care providers and researchers who work with children, youth and families in American Indian, Alaska Native, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities to share model programs and research, learn about prevalent health problems, and acquire practical skills for use in community settings.
WHAT’S NEW?
The Planning Committee invites abstracts on all topics pertaining to Indigenous child health. Submissions will be accepted from individuals working with Indigenous populations, and are not limited to medical providers. The deadline for abstracts is September 20, 2010.

This conference is designed to:
- Expand your awareness of the changing health needs of Indigenous children and the unique solutions to addressing these needs.
- Improve your understanding of traditional health and healing practices, and the importance of including the perspectives of those with this expertise in the provision of culturally competent care in Indigenous communities.
- Enhance your awareness of exemplary scholarly and community participatory research findings about the health and health care of Indigenous populations.
- Promote collaboration and information exchange among people working with Indigenous children and families.
- Provide opportunities for Indigenous students and trainees to gain new skills and insights to better respond to the determinants of Indigenous child health.
- Enhance your understanding of the continued need for advocacy related to improving the health of Indigenous children and their families.
- Strengthen the connections between Indigenous people worldwide.
