Healthy Kids, Active Kids: Practice Tools
Healthy active living counselling doesn’t have to be complex, even for paediatricians with busy practices. Here are some essential resources that will help.
CPS position statement on Healthy Active Living for Children and Youth.
Patient education from the CPS: The CPS has produced a colourful brochure and poster to help you promote healthy active living in your practice. The brochure provides families with tips on increasing their activity levels and developing healthier eating habits. You can also refer parents to our Caring for Kids website.
Prescription for Healthy Active Kids: This tool allows paediatricians to tailor physical activity recommendations to individual patients and monitor their progress toward a healthier lifestyle.
Healthy Active Living: Quick Reference Sheet: Available for physicians to help counsel patients about healthy active living. It will help determine who needs counselling, what to say to the patient, how to prescribe an effective plan and how to monitor the patient’s progress.
Already a staple in many physicians’ offices, the Food Guide also has complementary background resources specific to paediatric populations, including Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide - A Resource for Educators and Communicators.
